One Completely Disassembled 1977 MGB Roadster
(The car was sold in early October 2021 and is no longer available.)
This will be the perfect project for someone who knows vintage MGBs and all of their special quirks.
This 1977 MGB roadster was completely disassembled during the summer of 1987. It was intended to be restored over the next several years, but finances and life plans interfered. But everything has been carefully stored and protected over the past 34 years.
When disassembled in 1987, the car had 76,486 original miles on it. The Virginia car title and the two original MG dataplates will be sold with the bodyshell. [VIN: GHN5UH442277G]
US cash only; no personal or bank checks accepted.
Price of everything included in sale, about 95% of the entire vehicle: SOLD ($900 final bid)
(Photographs are at bottom of this webpage in gallery.)
Bodyshell
The bodyshell is complete, but does have several areas of rust that need to be addressed.
Complete new sheet metal repair panels for both rockers were imported from the UK at the time, but never installed. These new repair panels are included with the sale.
The bodyshell was stored under waterproof cover outside, off the ground, and regularly checked over the decades. All other parts were stored indoors.
Engine and body assembly details
A Weber DGV was installed on the car in the mid-1980s, so the ZS carb was sold at that time, and in the years since the Weber DGV was also sold. No carburetor is sold with the vehicle, nor is an intake manifold.
As you can see from the photos, the hood, trunk, 2 doors and a spare, and 2 front wings are included. All were stored inside in a climate controlled basement room.
The complete engine and transmission are sold as one piece. Both were in good order when the car was disassembled. All mounting brackets are included.
The complete rear axle, and five Rostyle wheels and 1980s tires are included with the sale.
Brake assemblies (master cylinder, front calipers and rear drum brakes) are all included, including all steel brake lines.
All suspension and steering pieces are included. That will include springs, front and rear Armstrong shocks, rack/pinion assy, steering wheel (interior and exterior cabin pieces) and all ancillary pieces.
The windshield and dashboard are complete and included with the sale. The center console and all inner cockpit assemblies are included in the sale. Both complete seats are included and were intended to be rebuilt with new parts never obtained.
The top frame is included with the sale, along with the header bar.
All of the original wiring harnesses are included. All headlamps, tail lamps, and side lamps are included. Almost all minor electrical--fuse box, voltage stabilizer, relays, etc.--are included.
The front and rear bumpers are included. Please note both were modified in the 1980s to reduce weight and the mounting surfaces replaced with pressure treated wood. The original metal sub-surface bumpers are included with the sale.
All other parts
Many little parts were intended to be replaced and were saved as-is. Many parts are included in this sale as were found when assembling for this sale the bits and pieces of a project never entirely abandoned, but never finished.
Other medium-sized parts included with the sale: radiator, radiator tank, cooling fans & brackets, cooling fan covers, ZS carb air filter assy, heater box assy., door glass (2x), door vent windows and wind-up mechanisms, brake/cluch cyl mounting box, windshield wiper motor and pipes, battery cover, washer bottle assy, front crossmember and bolts, front and rear springs, prop shaft, SU fuel pump, engine/trans mounting brackets front and rear, gas tank, fasteners carefully labeled to location, and almost all other smaller body pieces.
Please drop me a note if you want to be sure the pieces are there; there are too many to list here. I have included everything in the sale I could find--about 95% of the entire vehicle.
Most parts in the 1987 disassembly were labeled and stored in boxes and labeled envelopes according to subassemblies, as seen in the photos.
All bolts for the frame that are known are included as part of this sale, carefully labeled in diagrams and drawings (see photo below).
Major parts NOT included
This "major parts not included" list is a good faith effort to list parts that were sold in the 1980s at the beginning of this uncompleted project, or were intended to be replaced with new trim items (such as carpets, seat covers, door panels, muffler, etc.) and disposed of in the last three decades.
There is no guarantee offered that everything needed to assemble the car back to working condition has been included in the sale. You will find that as you reassemble the car some small pieces are not included, as they have been lost over the decades and will have to be replaced by the buyer.
Everything in this sale is sold as-is.
Location of project
All parts will have to be picked up where they are located in northern Virginia; there is no shipping or transportation included in any way with this sale. Bring a trailer and several strong hands, especially to move the engine/transmission [estimated to weigh 500 lbs. together]. I cannot help move the engine because of my bad back.
The project is being sold with the sad realization that I will never have the time to complete this rebuild as I intended those many years ago. I am hoping someone else will enjoy the restoration process and get this marvelous MGB convertible back on the road again.
Thanks for your interest.
